Ted Cruz on Fox Business: Sanctuary Cities are Wrong

illegal immigration continues to be an enormous problem as you know I represent we have roughly twelve hundred miles of the border with Mexico we deal with

illegal immigration every day we deal with the crime that that that that that flows from it and unfortunately it's exacerbated number one by cities like San Cisco

that our sanctuary cities that they give blessings to to criminal aliens but number two we

example in two thousand thirteen the Obama administration released over thirty six thousand

criminal aliens it released one hundred sixteen illegal immigrants dnmt I

did not want this guy loose on the streets though that seemed to me to be a breakdown in federal versus

local what lucky in that there is a persistent pattern we see cities a lot of cities across the country sometimes with

the blessings of their governors that serve as havens for those who are here illegally but but

the problem is exacerbated you know I spent a lot of time down on the border in in in Texas visiting with border patrol agents visiting with local law enforcement I'll tell you their morale is low because

the Obama administration tells them not to enforce the law in twenty thirteen but that the Obama administration if

I hear you but I guess I you know and that's for sure is something that you know we need to we need to strengthen our borders I think that everyone on both sides of the aisles would actually tell you it's not right to have a

people pouring into this country illegally and something needs to be done about it but in this particular case it just surprises me that they're Francisco's one two

cities are wrong I I join with my colleague senator Tom cotton in legislation that would bar any federal funds from going to a city that

is trying to define federal immigration laws but the point I was trying to it's not just the cities that are defying the law it's

the federal government in twenty thirteen the Obama administration released one hundred and sixteen illegal immigrants who

had homicide convictions who were murderers they released over fifteen thousand people a drunk driving conviction which

doesn't make sense for cities to be harboring violent criminals to be harboring those who violate our laws it

doesn't make sense for the federal government to be releasing violent criminals
